Winds could reach 50 mph today

Parts of Western New York, including Orleans County, could see wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour today, the National Weather Service said.

The wind advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. and includes Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Erie, Genesee, Wyoming and Chautauqua counties.

There will be southwest winds from 20 to 30 mph with gusts to to 50 mph, according to the Weather Service, which advised people to secure loose outdoor items.

Today is also forecast to reach 80 degrees, about 20 degrees above normal for Oct. 18.
