Elks in Albion treat vets at VA to barbecue picnic, coldweather capes

BATAVIA – Members of the Albion Lodge #1006 of the Benevolent and Protective order of Elks on Tuesday treated the long-term resident veterans of the VA Medical Center in Batavia to an outdoor chicken barbecue with corn bread, salt potatoes, baked beans, fruit, coleslaw and dessert.
The veterans were invited to ask their family members or a favorite staff member to join them.
The Elks Lodge also donated to each veteran a cold weather waterproof hooded wheelchair cape (pictured), as well as travel mugs with straws and tote bags.
Highly favorable feedback was received from staff and veterans regarding this event and a great time was had by all.
This picnic has become an annual event for the Albion Elks Lodge #1006, with gifts and picnic funded by the ELKS National Foundation Spotlight Grant.
