Medina visits Alden in C North opener; Albion visits Dunkirk in B2 opener both on Friday

Medina will begin C North Division football competition at Alden at 7 p.m. Friday in a matchup of two of last fall’s division tri-champions.

Medina, Alden and Newfane were C North tri-champions as they all finished with identical 6-1 records.

That three way log jam for the title occurred as Medina defeated Alden 44-7, Newfane defeated Medina 23-6 and Alden defeated Newfane 7-6.

Medina is looking to keep the momentum from a season opening 41-0 victory at Silver Creek/Forestville last Friday while Alden is seeking to rebound from a 42-6 loss to Wilson.

The Mustangs season opening offensive effort included two touchdown passes from quarterback Preston Woodworth to Jerrell Nealy along with two rushing touchdowns by Christian Moss and one each by Kolton Fletcher and Jayzon Wills. Woodworth competed 13 of 16 passes for 223 yards and Moss rushed for a total of 171 yards.

Albion will likewise be taking to the road for the second week in a row as the Purple Eagles begin B2 Division competition at Dunkirk at 7 p.m. Friday.

Both teams are looking to bounce back from season opening losses. Albion was downed 33-14 at Lew-Port and Dunkirk dropped a 28-21 decision to Depew in a B2 game.

In another C North Division opener, Barker/Roy-Hart will host Akron at 7 p.m. Friday at Barker.

Again both teams are looking to rebound from season opening losses. Barker/Roy-Hart lost 34-15 at Newfane and Akron bowed 33-20 to Gowanda.

On Saturday, Holley will host CG Finney at 1 p.m. in the Hawks home opener.

Holley lost 33-0 at Cardinal O’Hara in the season opener last Saturday while Finney was downed 28-12 by Red Jacket.
