No. 1 seed Barker wins Section VI softball tourney opener; Albion and Roy-Hart bow

Three first inning runs proved to be just enough to earn top seeded Barker a narrow 3-2 win over visiting No. 8 Gowanda this afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the Section VI Class C softball tournament.

An RBI single by Peyton Bradley, a groundout off the bat of winning pitcher Madyson Flint and a passed ball plated the decisive opening inning runs for Barker.

In the circle, Flint allowed 3 hits and struck out 9.

Class A
Williamsville South 13, Albion 1
Top seeded Williamsville South jumped out to an early commanding 8-0 lead to key a 13-1 win over visiting No. 8 Albion in the quarterfinal round of the Class A tournament.

Will South scored 5 runs in the first inning and 3 more in the second to take charge early.

Cami London and Kaitlyn Bennett both had 2 hits for Albion.

Will South pitcher Alyssa Budzinski scattered 5 hits and struck out 13.

Class B
Alden 10, Roy-Hart 8
Trailing 7-3, No. 4 seed Alden rallied for 7 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to key a 10-8 win over visiting No. 5 Roy-Hart in the Class B quarterfinals.

A three run triple by Molly Earsing highlighted Alden’s big rally.

Roy-Hart built up the 7-3 lead as Brooke Corser had a two-run double in the fourth inning and Peyton May a triple and Alayna Kowalski and Olivia Marsillo doubles to key a three run fifth inning.

May had a total of 3 hits and Abby Fox 2 for Roy-Hart

In other Class B games, No. 6 seed Allegany-Limestone defeated No. 14 Newfane 14-2 and No. 2 Fredonia topped No. 7 Wilson 13-1.

Lyndonville game postponed

The No. 16 seed Hinsdale at No. 1 Lyndonville Section V Class D softball opening round tournament game was postponed and has been rescheduled for 5:15 p.m. Friday.
