Medina ‘9’ completes sweep of Roy-Hart
Photos by Cheryl Wertman – Brody Fry hurled a sparkling one hitter with a dozen strikeouts as the Mustangs bested host Roy-Hart 13-0 this afternoon.
Scoring four quick runs in the first inning, Medina went on shutout host Roy-Hart 13-0 this afternoon as the Mustangs completed a Niagara-Orleans League season opening baseball sweep of the Rams.
A single by Ryleigh Culver, a wild pitch, a groundout off the bat of winning pitcher Brody Fry and a sacrifice fly by Carter Woodworth plated the opening inning runs for Medina. A leadoff single by Aidan Papaj a walk and a hit batter loaded the bases to set up the threat.
A double by Vinny Gray upped the Medina lead to 5-0 in the second inning.
The Mustangs then broke the contest wide open by erupting for 6 runs in the fourth inning highlighted by a bases clearing three-run double by Preston Woodworth. A single by Culver, a hit batter and a wild pitch plated the other three runs. A single by Hadrian Batista and a bunt single by Tyler Kroening set up the opportunity.
Preston Woodworth closed out the Mustangs scoring parade with a two-run single in the fifth inning.
Papaj, Preston Woodworth, Culver, Fry and Kroening all finished with two hits.
On the mound, Fry hurled a sparkling one hitter with 12 strikeouts.
Medina is now 2-0 and Roy-Hart 0-3 in N-O action.
Barker 6, Newfane 0
Barker evened its N-O record at 2-2 with a 6-0 win over Newfane (0-2) as Jackson Prynn pitched a 1 hitter with 11 strikeouts.
Breaking a scoreless deadlock, Barker erupted for five runs in the sixth inning capped off by RBI singles by Logan Flint and Alex Ark.
Flint and Isaac Monaco both finished with a pair of hits.
Akron 12, Wilson 5
Akron stayed undefeated at 4-0 in N-O action with a 12-5 win over Wilson which slips to 1-2.
The Tigers scored 4 times in both the second and fifth innings and 3 times in the fourth frame.
