Errors key Mustangs win over Rams; Bulldogs and Tigers win in extra innings

All of the runs came home on errors as Medina opened defense of its Niagara-Orleans League baseball championship with a 5-0 win over Roy-Hart at Vets Park this afternoon.

Preston Woodworth hurled a one hit shutout for the Mustangs

Medina scored twice on a pair of errors in the third inning, twice on an error in the fourth and once in the fifth on another error.

A single by Tyler Kroening helped set up the third inning scoring opportunity as did two walks in the fourth and a walk and a single by Brody Fry in the fifth. Kroening had two of the Mustangs three hits.

Preston Woodworth went the distance on the mound for the Mustangs allowing only 1 hit and striking out 8.

Roy-Hart’s best scoring opportunity came in the second inning. Isaac Smith led off with a triple but the Rams couldn’t capitalize. They ended up stranding runners at second and third as the Mustangs got the big first out at home plate on a throw from third baseman Carter Woodworth to catcher Ryleigh Culver.

Medina will visit Roy-Hart in a rematch at 4:45 p.m. Thursday at Gasport.

Barker 3, Newfane 2 (9)
Barker outlasted Newfane 3-2 in 9 innings as Drew LaGreca led off the bottom of the ninth with a walk and came home on a fielders choice play off the bat of Alex Ark.

LaGreca also had a key RBI sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to tie the game at 2-2.

Akron 4, Wilson 2 (10)
Akron pushed across a pair of runs in the 10th inning on an error and an RBI single by Jackson Odachowski to outlast host Wilson 4-2 in the other N-O contest.

Pavilion 9, Albion 6
Pavilion downed host Albion 9-6 in a non league contest.

Pavilion scored 3 times in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings.

Albion led 2-0 in the second on a single by Gavin Boyce and a wild pitch, 4-2 in the fourth on a single by Drew Pritchard and tied the game in the 6th at 6-6 on an error and a single by Mason Snook.
