Medina ‘9’ tops Nichols in non league game

Playing for the first time in a week, Medina downed Nichols 7-2 in a non league baseball game at Vets Park this afternoon.
Trailing 1-0, Medina took the lead for good by scoring twice in the second inning on an RBI single by Brady Christiaansen and a hit batter. Two walks and a single by Cam Fike set up the opportunity.
The Mustangs upped the lead to 3-1 with a tally in the third inning on a wild pitch as a double by Ryleigh Culver started the frame.
Medina broke the game open by scoring three times in the fourth inning on a two-run single by Brody Fry and a ground out off the bat of Preston Woodworth. A walk, a single by Vinny Gray and a hit batter loaded the bases to set up the threat.
Woodworth also drove in Medina’s final run with an RBI double in the sixth inning.
Lukas Grimes and Woodworth split the pitching duties combining on a 6 hitter with 9 strikeouts.
Aidan Papaj had two hits on the day for Medina which next hosts Batavia at 4:45 p.m. Monday for another non league game.
Elba 10, Lyndonville 0
Elba blanked visiting Lyndonville 10-0 in a Genesee Region League game.
The Lancers scored 4 runs in the third inning and 3 in the sixth to key the win.
