Three Medina and two Albion wrestlers claim N-O All-League Tourney championships
Three Medina and two Albion wrestlers earned championships at the annual Niagara-Orleans All League Tournament held today at Albion.
Medina’s trio of repeat N-O champions included Reece Senske (116), Luke Duffina (131) and Brody Fry (190)
Stryker Sanders (101) and Drake Schomski (108) claimed championships for Albion.
Roy-Hart/Barker likewise had a pair of champions in Luke Fay (138) and Ronan Klug (170) as did Wilson in defending champion Jacob Stephenson (160) and Hamza Merrick (285).
Newfane led the way to the victory podium with four winners including defending champions Aidan Gillings (145) and Ayden Buttery (152) along with Rian Czaja (124) and Richard Doxey (215).
Senske pinned Robert Bauer (Wilson) in 47 seconds in his title bout after scoring a pin of 1:10 in the semifinals.
Duffina scored a 13-2 major decision win over Joey Jopp (Roy-Hart/Barker) in the finals after earning a pin of 3:01 in the semis.
Fry pinned Henry Wortkoetter (Wilson) in 1:08 in his title bout. He advanced with pins of 25 seconds in the quarterfinals and 3:27 in the semis.
Stryker pinned his Albion teammate Justin Mengs in 39 seconds in the finals after posting a technical fall win in the semis.
Schomske pinned Angelo Cusatis (Wilson) in 1:18 in his title bout. He also scored pins in both the quarter and semifinals.
Fay pinned Cameron Wild (Akron) in 37 seconds in the finals and Klug pinned Chris Almonte (Albion) in 3:11 in his title bout.
In Wilson’s title wins Stephenson won by disqualification over Will Vandenbosch (Akron) and Merrick pinned his Lakemen teammate Michael Jeffords in 3:00.
In Newfane’s championship bouts Czaja pinned Alex Brandl (Akron) in 2:24, Gillings had a 17-6 major decision win over Victor Cusatis (Wilson), Buttery pinned Jake Smith (Akron) in 1:12 and Doxey pinned Dominick Lopez (Wilson) in 2:41.
Gillings earned the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler award.
Medina’s Austin Seefeldt (152) placed third as did the Roy-Hart/Barker trio of Rowan Murray (108), Remington Marohn (124) and RJ Townsend (285).
Newfane, which finished first during the dual match portion of the N-O season at 5-0, captured the All-League Tournament title with 176.5 points. Wilson was second with 165.5 points followed by Akron 132, Roy-Hart/Barker 125.5, Albion 102 and Medina 81.5.
