Local grads set for NCAA Div. III tourneys
Albion High graduate Sydney Mulka and her Penn State Harrisburg soccer teammates will begin NCAA Division III tournament competition at Williams Smith College in Geneva on Saturday.
Penn State Harrisburg advanced to the NCAA national tournament by downing St. Mary’s of Maryland 4-3 on penalty kicks to win the United East Conference championship.
A junior, Mulka made 1 save in goal during regulation time which finished scoreless as did two overtime periods setting the stage for the penalty kick shootout.
A three year stater in goal, Mulka has made 38 saves and has a 0.76 goals against average this season.
Penn State Harrisburg is 10-5-5 and William Smith 12-3-4.
Barker High grad Katrina Clare and her SUNY Geneseo field hockey teammates will begin NCAA Division III tournament competition at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania on Wednesday.
Geneseo, which is 18-2, qualified for the NCAA national tourney by capturing the Empire 8 Conference championship with a 4-0 win over Hartwick in the title contest.
Clare, who is a fifth year player and an International Relations major, leads Geneseo in scoring with 38 points on 16 goals and 6 assists. For her career she has 109 points on 47 goals and 15 assists.
