Somerset ‘9’ tops Lockport 1

Front-running Somerset downed host Lockport 1 by a score of 6-4 Thursday to improve to 5-2 in Lockport Midget ‘A’ League action.

Somerset had a big three-run fourth inning ignited by a triple by Kyle MacDonald and highlighted by a two-run single by Dan Engert. MacDonald had a total of 3 hits.

Brad Wilson then singled in what proved to be the game winning run with a fifth inning RBI single giving Somerset a 5-1 lead.

Devon Mangan later plated an insurance run with an RBI single in the top of the seventh.

Evan Ecker went the distance on the mound for Somerset scattering 6 hits and striking out 11.

Somerset next visits Lyndonville (4-4) at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
