Somerset ‘9’ posts key win at O.P.
Regaining a share of first place, Somerset bested host Orchard Park 12-8 Thursday in a key Lockport Midget ‘A’ League game.
The victory vaults Somerset into a tie for first place at 4-2 with Lyndonville. Lockport 2 is just a half game off the pace at 3-2 and Orchard Park also has just a pair of losses at 2-2 in the tight title race.
Breaking away from an 8-8 deadlock, Somerset claimed the win by scoring 4 times in the sixth inning on a two-run double by Jake Hurtgam and a two-run triple by Brad Wilson.
Somerset also got off to a quick start by erupting for 6 runs in the first inning sparked by infield singles by Eddie Wasnock and Kyle MacDonald.
All-Star Game upcoming
The Midget ‘A’ League All-Star game will be held July 13 at Gasport at 7:30 p.m.
Three players from each of the league’s five teams will comprise the All-Star squad which will take on the Roy-Hart CEBA League team.
