Williamson nips Holley in C1 semifinal
A goal just before halftime proved to be the only score as top seeded Williamson nipped No. 5 Holley 1-0 in the semifinals of the Section V Class C1 girls soccer tournament this evening at East Rochester.
Williamson’s goal by Kendall Fernaays came off a corner kick with just 36 seconds remaining in the opening half.
Holley came battling back over the final 12 minutes but first had a shot from straight away bounce off a Williamson defender. The Lady Hawks were then unable to capitalize on two late corner kick opportunities.
Holley goalie Jayda Shampine made two big saves earlier in the second half to keep it a 1-0 game. She first stopped a shot on a Williamson breakaway opportunity and then stopped a shot on a direct kick.
Holley finishes the season at 13-5-1 while Williamson advances to Friday’s C1 final with a 16-3 record.
