Rotary, Barre, Sandstone score two wins

Front-running Rotary, runner-up Barre and third place Sandstone each scored a pair of victories this past week in Albion Midget League action.Improving to 9-4, Rotary defeated Vets 17-6 and St. Mary’s 8-7; Barre topped Sandstone 11-8 and St. Mary’s 11-7 to go to 9-5 and Sandstone bested Vets 6-1 and Carlton 18-3 to go to 8-6.

In the other game reported, Vets downed St. Mary’s 18-8.

Rotary 8, St. Mary’s 7

Rotary edged past St. Mary’s 8-7 as a home run by Marcos Velazquez tied the game and a double by Aidin McFadden plated the game winner. Zaire Reid came on in relief registering 6 strikeouts in 2 innings to close out the game. He also had two hits.

Zac Olles pitched a good game for St. Mary’s and also was on base four times at the plate and scored three runs. Reuben Rivers also had three hits .

Rotary 17, Vets 6

Velazquez had a grand slam home run and Dallas Ecker 4 RBIs for Rotary.

Bobby Dysard had a home run for Vets as Brandon Nashburn drove in 3 runs and Seth Janus added 2 runs

Barre 11, St. Mary’s 7

Barre defeated St. Mary’s 11-7 in a back and forth game. Tyler Gibson got the final outs on the mound, and also led Barre at the plate with two homers and a single. Zandyr Meakin also homered and singled twice. Cade Wolcott added three hits, including two doubles.

Olles had three hits for St. Mary’s and Rivers two, including a ground-rule double after the ball bounced over the outfield fence. Jonny Judd also hit a triple.

Barre 11, Sandstone 8

Home runs by Gibson and Wolcott and triples by Meakin and Jacob Foote highlighted the Barre attack. Gibson had a total of 3 hits and Meakin 2. Gibson also had 6 strikeouts in 3 innings of work on the mound and Meakin 4 in 2 innings.

Caleb Fox had 3 hits, including a home run, and Nick Martino 2, including a double for Sandstone.

 Sandstone 6, Vets 1

Fox registered 14 strikeouts on the mound to lead the way for Sandstone. Fox also had 3 hits and Zach Colacecchi 2 including a double and a two-run triple in the sixth inning.

Al’tmir Brown had an RBI and Maurice Taylor a triple for Vets.

Sandstone 18, Carlton 3

Martino had 4 hits and 3 RBIs, Chris Sacco 3 hits and 5 RBIs, Colacecchi 3 hits and Jake Hughson 3 hits including a three-run homer to lead the Sandstone offense. Colacecchi also had 9 strikeouts in 4 innings of work on the mound.

Nate Olmstead had a home run for Carlton.

Vets 18, St. Mary’s 8

Kyle Woolston had 7 strikeouts pitching three innings for Vets.  He also added three RBI’s.  Bobby Dysard and Seth Janus each had doubles and Maurice Taylor added a triple.  Dysard and Taylor had 2 RBI’s a piece with Janus adding 4.

For St. Mary’s, Reuben Rivers had a 2-run triple, and Jayce Ashton had two singles, driving in 2 runs.
