Purple Eagles to host rival Mustangs Friday

One of New York State’s oldest high school football rivalries will be renewed on Friday as Medina visits Albion at 7 p.m.

This will be the 126th renewal of the rivalry which began in 1898.

Albion holds a 69-51-5 lead in the series but the teams have split the last 10 meetings with Medina winning 38-8 last year.

The Mustangs bring a 6-1 record into the contest while the Purple Eagles are looking to snap a season long seven game losing streak.

In another interdivisional regular season finale, Roy-Hart/Barker will host Franklinville/Ellicottville at 7 p.m. Friday at Barker.

The Bulls have won two in a row after opening the season 0-5.

Two key games are on tap to determine whether the C North Division has a champion, co-champions or tri-champions.

Those contests will have Newfane hosting Maritime at 7:05 p.m. Thursday and Alden entertaining Cleveland Hill at 7 p.m. Friday.

Currently both at 5-1, Newfane and Alden are both seeking a victory to gain a share of the title with Medina which has finished divisional competition at 6-1 having locked up at least a share of a fifth straight championship.
