Photo by Cheryl Wertman – The Medina defense and offense will both face a key challenge Friday as the Mustangs host unbeaten Alden in a critical C North Division game at Vets Park at 7 p.m. Here Mustang defenders Avion Johnson and Carter Woodworth make a tackle during last week’s win over Akron at Vets Park.

Having captured four straight C North Division championships Medina’s quest to claim at least a share of a fifth straight title now faces a must win situation  as the Mustangs host unbeaten Alden at 7 p.m. Friday at Vets Park.

Alden brings a 4-0 C North (5-0 overall) record into the key contest while Medina is 4-1 (4-1 overall). Newfane and Cleveland Hill, which are both 3-1 in the division, are also both still in the hunt for a share of the title.

Medina’s lone defeat was a 23-6 loss to Newfane which Alden downed by a narrow 7-6 margin. The Bulldogs defense in fact has allowed more than one touchdown only once in five games.

Following the Alden contest Medina has only one C North game remaining at Maritime on October 19 as the Mustangs will close out the regular season with an interdivisional game at rival Albion on Oct. 25.

Alden will still have two C North games remaining at Akron on Oct. 18 and at home to Cleve Hill on Oct. 25.

Newfane, which hosts Tonawanda on Friday, will also visit Cleve Hill on Oct. 19 and host Maritime on Oct. 25.

Friday’s other C North games at 7 p.m. will have Cleve Hill at Akron and Maritime vs. Roy-Hart/Barker at Barker.

Offensively, Medina is looking to keep the momentum from last week’s second straight 50 point outing, a 50-12 win over visiting Akron, in which quarterback Preston Woodworth, Christian Moss, Kolton Fletcher and Jayzon Wills each ran for a  touchdown, Preston Woodworth passed to Carter Woodworth for a pair of TDs and Cole Callard kicked a school record 3 field goals.

Moss now has over 900 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns while Preston Woodworth has passed for 464 yards and 7 TDs including 3 each to Carter Woodworth and Jerrell Nealy.

Except for the Newfane contest, the Medina defensive unit has allowed no more than one TD in each of the other four games.

Running back Ben Partell and quarterback Mason Urso have both rushed for 4 touchdowns for Alden.

Albion will visit Springville in a B3 Division game at 7 p.m. Friday.

The other B3 games will have Depew at Maryvale and Lew-Port at Dunkirk on Friday and Olean at Lackawanna on Saturday.

Holley will host Allegany-Limestone in a non league 8 Man Division game at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Hawks are 4-1 on the season.
