Tigers battle to double OT tie with Hawks
Taking a big step forward in the task of restarting the varsity program, Lyndonville battled to a 1-1 tie in double overtime with visiting Holley this evening in a Genesee Region League boys soccer game.
“This was a significant tie as we work to rebuild our varsity program,” said Lyndonville Coach Wes Bradley. “I’m very proud of what I saw from my team this evening against a very high caliber opponent.”
Lyndonville grabbed a 1-0 lead with 21 minutes to go in the second half as Jesus Rosario-Reyes scored on a direct kick.
Holley answered back to tie on a goal by Aidan Kelley with 7 minutes to go in regulation time.
The Hawks kept pressure on for most of the rest of regulation time and throughout much of the two 10 minute overtime periods but could not dent the Tigers goal.
Brody Hazel had a huge game in goal for Lyndonville making no less than 15 saves.
“Our defenders Jesus Rosario-Reyes, Michael Alexander, Austin Fonda and Chanse Amsdill all did yeoman work in front of Brody,” said Bradley.
Lyndonville is now 2-3-1 in its first varsity season back after not fielding a team last fall and Holley is 2-1-1.
