Huge Albion rally nips Medina in N-O boys track meet
When competition in the Niagara-Orleans League season opener ended on Thursday with 15 of 17 events completed the Albion boys track team trailed host rival Medina/Lyndonville by 15 points (69-54).
Because of wet grounds the remaining two events, the shot-put and discus, were postponed until today at Albion.
The large deficit meant that Albion would have to take 17 of the possible 18 points in the two remaining events in order to claim victory.
And incredibly that is exactly what the Purple Eagles did to emerge with a 71-70 victory.
Senior Nate Trembley led the Purple Eagles comeback by taking first place in both the shot-put (42-6) and the discus (105-7).
Junior Kory Reynolds likewise came up big taking second place in both events.
Jared Hollinger, who is also a junior, provided the meet winning point for the Purple Eagles with a third place in the shot-put.
The Albion girls, which held a big 70-52 lead at the end of Thursday’s competition, locked up a 75-65 victory by taking second and third in the shot-put with Nicole Eldred and Bre Johnson and second in the discus with Johnson.
Medina/Lyndonville’s Emma Gardner took first place honors in both the shot-put and discus.
