Green scores win to open match play competition at the U.S. Women’s Amateur

Moving on top to stay with wins on the first two holes, Medina’s Melanie Green scored a 4 and 3 victory today on the opening round of match play competition at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Seeded No. 2, Green grabbed a quick 2 up lead over No. 63 seed Paula Martin Sampedro from Spain by winning the first two holes to open the round of 64 match.

Green quickly extended her advantage to 3 up after just 6 holes and to 4 up after 9 holes.

She closed out the victory by winning the 15th hole to go 4 up with just 3 holes to play.

Green will next face No. 31 seed Rocio Tejedo from Spain in the round of 32 match Thursday morning.

If successful she will advance to the round of 16 match on Thursday afternoon.

The quarterfinals are Friday, the semis on Saturday and the finals on Sunday.

Green advanced to the match play portion of the championship by carding sub par rounds of 70 and 69 in the stroke portion of the event on Monday and Tuesday.

That 139 total earned her second place in the stroke play competition and the No. 2 seed for the match play competition.

This is Green’s second appearance in the U.S. Women’s Amateur. She advanced to the round of 64 in 2022.
