Medina 16U splits at Cheektowaga Tourney

The Medina Mustangs 16U Travel team split a pair of games today to close out competition in the Crabapple Baseball Tournament at Cheektowaga,

Medina opened the day with an 8-1 win over the Spartans as Lukas Grimes scattered 5 hits and struck out 11.

Trailing 1-0, Medina took the lead for good by scoring 3 runs in the fourth inning on a two-run single by Brady Christiaansen and an RBI triple by Lucas Kimber. Singles by Jackson Prynn and Colton Fletcher set up the threat.

Keeping the momentum, the Mustangs tacked on 5 big runs in the fifth frame as Fletcher singled in 2 runs and Christiaansen doubled in 2 more. Singles by Jimmy Dieter and Colton Smith and a walk loaded the bases to set up the opportunity.

In the second game, the Storm scored 5 quick runs in the first inning to key a 9-5 win over Medina.

The Mustangs did cut the deficit to 5-3 with three runs in the third inning highlighted by a two-run triple by Prynn.

Medina’s other two runs came in the fifth frame on an RBI single by Grimes and a double steal.

The Storm locked up the win with 3 runs in the fifth.
