Medina bows in field hockey opener

KENMORE – Building up a 3-0 half-time advantage, Kenmore went on to defeat Medina 4-0 this afternoon in the Niagara-Orleans League field hockey season opener.
Alyson Kerr scored the first two goals for Kenmore.
Hallie Seaman made 20 saves in goal for Medina which next visits Akron on Tuesday.
Barker 5, Newfane 0
BARKER – Melissa Grosshans scored three goals and Erika Moeller and Kelsey Blackley each added one to power defending champion Barker past Newfane 5-0.
Caitlyn Mason earned the shut-out in goal for the Lady Raiders.
Wilson 3, Roy-Hart 2
WILSON – Michelle Myers scored two goals to lead Wilson to a 3-2 victory over Roy-Hart which got tallies by Rielly Albee and Casidhe Heschke.
Volleyball
Medina 3, Akron 2
AKRON – Medina outlasted Akron 3-2 in five sets this evening to improve to 2-0 in N-O volleyball action.
Felicia Houseman had seven service points for Medina in the decisive fifth set.
Jenna Carpenter had 8 kills on the night for the Mustangs as Emma Ambrose had 6 and Brittany Button 4. Emily Kams and Molley Gross both had 8 assists.
Nicole Blount served up 8 points and Hailey Jakubowski the final 3 for Medina in the second set as the Mustangs jumped out to a 2-0 lead.
Roy-Hart 25-25-25, CSAT 8-4-12
BUFFALO – Roy-Hart likewise improved to 2-0 by downing CSAT in three straight sets.
Eliza Schwab had 13 service points, 5 aces and four kills to lead the Lady Rams as Victoria Benner had 9 points including 7 aces, Melanie Mikits 9 points with 3 aces and Justine Wittcop 7 points with 5 aces.
Alexander 3, Lyndonville 1
LYNDONVILLE – Heather Mufford and Morgan Hungerford both had strong serving nights for Lyndonville in a 3-1 Genesee Region League loss to Alexander.
