The Twins scored what proved to be the game winning run in the first inning on a hit by Hunter Kruger. The Twins added an insurance run in the third on a hit by Seefeldt after a walk and singles by Wes Hughes and Goyette had loaded the bases.

The Yankees though got out of further trouble in the third as Nate Sherman registered a clutch inning ending strikeout with the bases loaded. Sherman had six strikeouts in three innings.

Yankees starting pitcher Ben Beam had four strikeouts in two innings.

The Yankees best scoring chance came in the fourth on a walk and a single by Brian Fry. However, they were left stranded at second and third as Goyette notched the clutch strikeout.
