Purple Eagles, Mustangs to open sectionals at home

Photo by Cheryl Wertman – Medina’s Aaron Feltz (4) and his Mustang teammates will host a Section VI Class B1 quarterfinal round playoff game on Friday. Albion will also host a Class A2 playoff contest on Wednesday.

Albion and Medina have both earned home games to open Section VI boys basketball playoff action this coming week.

Seeded No. 6, Albion (7-11) will host No. 11 Pioneer (3-14) at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the pre-quarterfinal round of the Class A2 playoff, The winner will visit No. 3 seed Maryvale (11-7) at 7 p.m. Friday.

Medina (12-6), which is seeded No. 3, draws a double bye in the 15 team Class B1 bracket. The Mustangs will host a quarterfinal round game at 7 p.m. Friday against either No. 6 Depew, No. 11 City Honors or No. 14 Eden.

City Honors will face Eden on Tuesday with the winner taking on Depew on Wednesday. The winner of that game will visit Medina on Friday.

Also in the B1 bracket, No. 9 Newfane visits No. 8 Bennett Wednesday with the winner to face top seeded Fredonia on Friday.

Roy-Hart has also drawn a Class B2 pre-quarterfinal round home game at 7 p.m. Wednesday as the No. 5 Rams will host the winner of Tuesday’s first round game between No. 13 JFK and No. 12 Southwestern.

Undefeated (18-0) Niagara-Orleans League champion Barker is the No. 1 seed in the Class C1 bracket. The Raiders will host a quarterfinal round game at 7 p.m. Friday against the winner of Wednesday’s pre-quarterfinal contest between No. 9 Portville and No. 8 Maritime Charter.
