No hitter highlights Midget openers

Albion Midget League baseball action got underway Saturday highlighted by a no hitter pitched by Sandstone Park’s Vincent Zona in a 12-2 win over Actives.

Zona struck out 14.

Isaiah Callicutt had a double and triple with five RBIs and Rylend Callicutt a three run homer to highlight the attack for Sandstone.

In the other openers Vets defeated Carlton/Elks 11-2, Barre blanked Rotary/ Lions 9-0 and St Mary’s trimmed Holley 7-4.

Thomas Furmanski pitched a complete game for Vets. He also banged out four hits, including a double and triple and drove in four runs.

Mekhi Rivera and Ben Restivo both added two hits. Restivo drove in two runs.

Brice Kelley had two hits, including a double, with two RBIs for Carlton/Elks.

Alex Gibson, who pitched four innings, and Zander Meakin, who hurled two frames, combined to blank Rotary for Barre.

Austin Aman went 4 for 4 at the plate for Barre.

Tegan Miller hurled a complete game for St. Mary’s in the win over Holley.

At the plate for St. Mary’s, Jonathan Judd had a two-run double, Deyonci Farley an RBI double and Dylan Beach an RBI.
