Hawks, Eagles and Tigers bow in sectionals

Holley, Kendall and Lyndonville all suffered setbacks in Section V boys basketball playoff action this evening.

Trailing 47-44, No. 5 seed Sodus rallied to outscore visiting No. 12 Holley 19-7 in the decisive final period to claim a 63-54 Class C1 pre-quarterfinal round win.

Destin Kuyal scored 23 and Vinny Golisano 18 to pace Holley which led 31-29 at the half.

A second half comeback bid fell short as visiting No. 11 Kendall dropped a 66-59 decision to Genesee Region League foe No. 6 Wheatland-Chili in a Class C2 pre-quarterfinal.

Trailing 38-19 at the half, Kendall battled back to cut the deficit to within six, 47-41, at the three-quarter mark. However, the Eagles could get no closer than four in the final period.

Jaden Schwenebraten scored 28 and Paris Williams Jr. to lead W-C.

Austin Wakefield led the Eagles with 20 as Louie Conte added 12, Hunter Richards 9, Austin Werth and Jacek Kwiatkowski 8 and Jonas Rhodes 2.

No. 8 Friendship-Scio downed visiting No. 9 Lyndonville 50-35 in a Class D pre-quarterfinal.

Up 27-17 at the half, Friendship-Scio used a 15-8 third period scoring edge to lock up the win.

Justin Higgins scored 14 and Colton Smith 10 for the Tigers.
