Medina wrestler qualifies for state tourney

Medina junior Reece Senske has earned a trip to the state wrestling championships by placing second at the Section VI D2 tournament held today at Lake Shore.

Senske rebounded from a semifinal round loss to score a pair of consolation bracket victories with a technical fall and a decision win to earn third place honors. He then posted a 5-3 sudden victory win over Gavin Burchanowski from Chautauqua Lake in the “True Second” match to advance to the states. Burchanowski had been defeated in the title bout.

Medina also had junior Brody Fry (190) place third as sophomore Luke Duffina (124) and senior Sawyer Kingsbury (215) both took fourth place.

Roy-Hart/Barker’s Ronan Klug also advanced to the state championships by placing second at 160 lb.

Newfane had a pair of champions in JJ Lucinski (101) and Ayden Buttery (145) as did Wilson in Jacob Stephenson (160) and William Wottkoetter (285).

Newfane’s Aidan Gillings (138) and Wilson’s Hamza Merrick (285) both placed second to also advance to the states.
