Lyndonville romps to Midget ‘A’ win
Exploding for six quick runs in the first inning, Lyndonville went on to defeat visiting Lockport 1 10-3 this evening in a Lockport Midget ‘ A’ League game.
Improving to 9-4, Lyndonville opens up a half game division lead over Medina (8-4) whose scheduled game against Lockport 1 was postponed. Third place Lockport 1 slips to 7-6. Lyndonville will next visit Medina at 6 p.m. Thursday in a key contest for the division lead.
Singles by Dominic DiCureia, Eddy Schildt and Michael Wells ignited the decisive first inning uprising for Lyndonville which also featured a two-run single by Trevor Bentley and a two-run infield error.
Keeping the momentum, Lyndonville quickly tacked on three more runs in the second inning on another two run error and a fielders choice play. Hits by Schildt and Wells along with a hit batsman loaded the bases to set up the threat.
Chris Scroger, who went the distance on the mound for Lyndonville, banged out a double and single as Wells, Schildt and Bentley also each finished with two hits.
Roy-Hart 7, Akron 6 (8)
Roy-Hart pushed acres a run in the eighth inning on two errors to nip Akron 7-6 and improve to 6-7.
Roy-Hart had grabbed a 6-5 lead in the top of the seventh on a two-run single by Austin Heschke but Akron countered with a tally in the home half of the seventh on a pair of hits to force the contest into extra innings.
Heschke and John O’Brien both had two hits on the night and Ryan Metz added a home run.
Ryan Farewell picked up the win on the mound striking out 10.
