Seahorses rally late to edge past Panthers
A 1-3 finish in the final event, earned Medina a narrow 77-74 come-from-behind win over visiting Newfane in a Niagara-Orleans League boys swim meet this afternoon.
Trailing 70-67, the Seahorses earned the decisive 10 points in the 400 Freestyle Relay to claim the victory on a first place finish by the quartet of Jackson Reese, Aidan Papaj, Jobi Wheeler and Caiden Class along with a third place finish by the foursome of Brandon Brueckner, Juan Velazquez, Hunter Walczak and Bradley Goyette.
Class was also an individual event double winner in the 200 Free and 500 Free.
Newfane, which took first place in 8 of the 11 events, got individual event double win efforts from Noah Kneeland (100 Free, 100 Backstroke) and Dylan Lamont (200 Individual Medley, 100 Breaststroke). Kneeland was also on two winning relays.
The Seahorses are now 1-2 and the Panthers 0-3.
Newfane did get a split on the day by downing Medina 99-52 in the girls meet.
The Lady Panthers had a pair of individual event double winners in Kimberly Schmitt (IM, Backstroke) and Lydia Lamont (Butterfly, Breaststroke). Both swimmers were also on two winning relays. Avery Stevenson, who won the 100 Free, was on all three winning relays.
Maya Anderson won the 200 Free and Madelynn Rutledge the 50 Free for Medina.
Newfane improves to 2-1 and Medina slips to 0-3.
