Medina and Albion wrestlers will open the season at Byron-Bergen Tournament Sat.
Medina and Albion will both open the high school wrestling season by competing in the Byron-Bergen Tournament on Saturday.
The Mustangs and Purple Eagles will then also both take part in Lyndonville’s Fred Large Memorial Tournament on December 9. In between the Mustangs will host Williamsville South in a non league dual meet on Dec. 7.
Medina is led by the veteran group of seniors Conor Crandall (215), Sawyer Kingsbury (285) and Liam Castricone (131) along with juniors Brody Fry (215), Reese Senske (116), Austin Seefeldt (152), Lukas Grimes (190), sophomore Luke Duffina (131) and freshman Brennan Allen (160).
Crandall and Kingsbury both captured Niagara-Orleans Tournament titles last year while Fry, Seefeldt and Duffina each placed second.
Albion is led by the senior duo of Josh Bovenzi (170) and Mason Lynch (285). Lynch placed second at the N-O Tournament,
The Purple Eagles other upperclassmen include senior Andrew Hill (138) along with juniors Dillon DiGuilio (285), Cencere Lowe (160) and Noah Marat (160).
Both teams will open N-O competition on Dec. 13 as Medina visits defending champion Newfane and Albion travels to Akron. The Mustangs finished in the runner-up spot at 4-1 last year behind the 5-0 Panthers.
