Roaring out to a commanding 10-1 first period lead, Akron went on to defeat visiting Medina 23-5 this afternoon in a Class C Division lacrosse game.

Brett Pecoraro scored two goals and Kyle Barna, Tyler Valley and Nick Dipidova each netted one for Medina which trailed 15-4 at the half and 20-4 after three quarters.

Medina, which next hosts Silver Creek at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, is now 1-7 ad 5-8 overall.

Second place finishes in both the shot-put and discus provided enough points this afternoon for Barker to complete a 75-65 victory over host Medina in the completion of a Niagara-Orleans League girls track meet. The two events were unable to be held last week because of wet grounds.

Martha Gardner won both the shot-put and discus for Medina.

Barker is now 2-1 and Medina 1-3.
