Mustangs edge past rival Purple Eagles

Defense was the name of the game as Medina nipped rival Albion 1-0 in a key Niagara-Orleans League boys soccer game this afternoon at Albion.

Vinny Gray scored the lone goal for Medina with about 12 minutes to go in the second half.

That tally came just minutes after the Medina defense withstood a strong Albion attack. The Purple Eagles had shots rattle off both the post and the cross bar before Mustang goalie Brady Christiaansen made a clutch diving save to end the threat.

Albion goalie Adrian Figueroa-Fuentes made several big saves to keep the Purple Eagles right in the game.

The win improves Medina’s N-O record to 4-1 at the halfway point of the league season.

The loss drops Albion to 2-2 with a makeup game at Wilson up next at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Albion’s Finn McCue and Medina’s Tyler Kroening battle for possession of the ball.

Wilson 5, Akron 0

Front running Wilson improved to 4-0 with 5-0 win over Akron which drops to 1-4.

Aidan Neumann had 2 goals for the Lakemen as Cole Hermann, David Gurski and Keegan Hermann each had 1.

Roy-Hart 10, Newfane 0

Six players contributed to the scoring as Roy-Hart blanked Newfane 10-0 to improve to 3-2 in N-O action.

Landen Guild scored 3 goals for the Rams as Braden Ricker and JoseDaniel Pabon Rosa both had 2 and Rem Albee, Jack Johnson and Zach Schultz 1 each.

The loss drops Newfane to 0-5.

N-O Golf
Newfane defeated Medina 223-258 in an N-O golf match Tuesday as Luke Gunby shot a 42 and Cameron Oudette 44 to lead the way for the Panthers.

Dylan Lonnen took medalist honors for Medina with a 41.

Akron downed Albion 224-incomplete today as Aiden Romesser took medalist honors with a 42.
