Purple Eagles down Raiders; Lakemen score key win over Mustangs

Pulling away down the stretch, Albion scored a 72-59 victory over host Barker this evening in a Niagara-Orleans League game.

In the other N-O contests, Wilson (3-0) downed visiting Medina (3-1) 52-43 in a key early season clash of unbeatens, Akron (3-0) bested Roy-Hart (1-3) 50-20 and Newfane (1-2) topped CSAT (0-3) 64-56.

Leading by a narrow 46-43 margin at the three-quarter mark, Albion used a 26-16 fourth quarter scoring surge to clinch the win over Barker as the Purple Eagles improve to 2-1 in N-O action.

Alex Bison scored 7, Clayton Stanton 6, Des Blackmon 5 and Austin Loyd and Manny Thompson 4 each to lead the Purple Eagles balanced attack down the stretch.

“We moved the ball around very well in the second half and then our defense really helped lock it up in the final quarter,” said Albion Coach Brennan Meakin.

Blackmon finished with a game high 22 points as Loyd netted 17, Bison 15 and Stanton 13.

Nathan Luckman scored 15, Tristan Payne 12 and Christopher Sweeney 11 for Barker which slips to 0-3.

Luckman hit two threes and Sweeney and Payne one each in the opening period to spark Barker out to a 20-13 lead. The Raiders maintained a 33-29 advantage at the half.

Albion though came battling back with 17-10 third period scoring edge to rally into a 46-43 lead at the three-quarter mark.

The Purple Eagles next host Newfane at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in a makeup game.

Wilson 52, Medina 43

Kyle Bradley scored 17, Joseph Littere 12 and Zach Sarratori 11 to lead Wilson to the key win over Medina.

Bradley scored 7 and Littere 6 in the decisive fourth quarter as the Lakemen outscored the Mustangs 19-15 to claim the win.

Wilson jumped out to a 9-6 first period lead and went on to hold narrow leads of 21-19 at the half and 33-28 after three quarters.

Adam Hellwig scored 16 and Devonte Howard 11 to lead Medina.

Akron 50, Roy-Hart 20

Building up a 27-14 halftime advantage, Akron coasted to the 50-20 win over Roy-Hart as Gates Abrams scored 23 and Larson Sundown 12 to spark the Tigers.

Andy Xapsos scored 9 and Justin Heschke 5 for Roy-Hart.

Newfane 64, CSAT 56

Kyle Burdick scored 17, Zach Lajoie 14 and Max Weber and Chad Gilson 10 each to lead Newfane past CSAT.

The Panthers led 32-26 at the half.

Attica 81, Lyndonville 48

Attica raced out to commanding leads of 24-5 after one period and 47-17 at the half to spark Blue Devils past visiting Lyndonville 81-48 in a Genesee Region League game.

Brandon Schoolcraft scored 15 Eric Neace 12 for Lyndonville as AJ Buckland and Nick Hinkson both added 6 for the Tigers.

Wheatland-Chili 73, Holley 49

A big 30-9 first quarter scoring burst sparked Wheatland-Chili to the 73-49 win over visiting Holley in a G-R contest.

Tyler Roberts led W-C with 24.

Joey DeFelice scored 16 to lead Holley as Josh Porter added 9, Nick Passarell 8 and Zach Vaccarelli and Ian Penders 7 each.
