Mustang gridders to face new foe
Riverside to visit Vets Friday; Albion travels to Depew
A new foe will provide the opposition at Vets Park Friday as Medina/Lyndonville hosts Riverside of Buffalo at 7:30 p.m. in an interdivisional football game.
It will be the first ever football meeting between the teams which are both looking to rebound from losses last week. Riverside, a Class AA school, was defeated 32-12 by Clarence while Medina/Lyndonville dropped a 40-6 B East Division decision at East Aurora/Holland.
“It definitely will be a challenge,” said Medina/Lyndonville Coach Eric Valley. “They are very athletic and have good team speed. They have a lot of very good athletes.”
The Mustangs will have a change at quarterback against the Frontiers. Senior Tyler Valley takes the helm as freshman Izaiah Rhim, who started the first two games, is sidelined with a concussion.
The Mustangs are 1-1 overall on the young season while the Frontiers are 0-2 having also lost to Timon/St. Jude 26-0.
Albion vs. Depew
For the second week in a row Albion takes to the road for a very challenging B East Division contest as the Purple Eagles visit Depew at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Last week the Purple Eagles were plagued by costly turnovers in a 20-7 loss at Alden. Two of the turnovers came in the Alden end zone and another near the Bulldogs goal line.
Albion holds a 10-7 lead in the series with Depew which began in 1942. However, the Wildcats have won the last four contests including the most recent meeting in 2012 by a score of 42-0.
Depew is coming off a 35-0 B East win over Barker/Roy-Hart.
The Purple Eagles and Wildcats are both 1-1 overall on the season.
Barker/Roy-Hart vs. Alden
Barker/Roy-Hart, which is looking to snap a season opening two game losing streak, hosts Alden in a B East contest at 7 p.m. Friday at Middleport.
The meeting will be just the second between the teams. Alden won the first encounter 42-13 in 2012.
Holley vs. CG Finney
Holley will visit C.G. Finney in a non league game at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Finney holds a 2-1 lead in the series with Holley including a 37-14 victory last fall.
