Lady Tigers surge past Lady Rams

Pulling away down the stretch, Akron posted a 44-29 victory over host Roy-Hart this evening in a Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball game.

Leading by a narrow 26-24 margin after three quarters, Akron erupted to outscore Roy-Hart 18-5 in the decisive final period to claim the victory.

Neely Abrams scored 7 points, Maggie Kowalik 5 and Carley Staebell 4 to lead the Lady Tigers decisive stretch run.

Ashley Mietz finished with a game high 15 points for Akron as Kowalik had 11 and Abrams 10.

Emma Lindke and Kendra Hill each scored 10 for Roy-Hart as Rielly Albee added 6, Sarah Duewiger 2 and Rachel Rausch 1.

However, it was Roy-Hart that got off the fast start as Albee hit three early baskets to spark the Lady Rams out to an 8-0 lead.

Akron though answered with a 7-0 run to close the opening period on a three by Abrams and two buckets by Kowalik to cut the deficit to one at 8-7.

Roy-Hart’s Alyssa Hess (13) puts up a shot over Akron’s Cailin Regan (21).

Roy-Hart did maintain a slender 18-17 lead at the half as Hill had three baskets and Lindke two in the second quarter.

Akron finally gained the lead at 26-24 by outscoring Roy-Hart 9-6 in the third period as a three and a jumper by Mietz led the Lady Tigers.

Akron then took charge down the stretch with the big 18-5 surge to improve to 4-6 in N-O action.

The loss drops Roy-Hart to 2-9.

N-O action continues on Friday with Newfane at Roy-Hart, CSAT at Akron, Albion at Medina and Wilson at Barker.
