Holley, Kendall, Lyndonville bow in G-R girls contests

Unable to rebound from a scoreless opening period, Holley dropped a 40-14 decision to visiting Alexander this evening in a Genesee Region League girls game.

In other G-R contests, Kendall bowed 44-34 at Byron-Bergen and Lyndonville dropped a 47-32 decision at Oakfield-Alabama.

Trailing 8-0 after one period, Holley did close the gap to three, 11-8, midway in the second period as Sam Barniak had 6 points and Emily Bailey 2.

However, the Lady Hawks could get no closer as Alexander closed the period with a 6-0 run to take a 17-8 lead at the break.

Alexander then used an 11-4 third period scoring edge to extend the advantage to 16, 28-12, at the three-quarter mark.

Sydney Breton scored 11 to lead a parade to 10 point getters for Alexander.

Barniak had 8 on the night for Holley as Jade Underwood added 4 and Emily Bailey 2.

The teams played with a pink basketball for the Think Pink event to raise awareness and funds to fight against cancer. The contest was part of the More Than A Game Foundation’s effort to “fight cancer one game at a time”.

Byron-Bergen 44, Kendall 34
Jumping out to a 12-2 first period lead, Byron-Bergen went on to down Kendall 44-34.

Taylor Kingsbury had 15 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists; Tania Arellano 10 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists and Taylor ReQua 7 steals and 3 rebounds for Kendall which trailed by only five. 37-32, with three and a half minutes to go.

Oakfield-Alabama 47, Lyndonville 32
A big third period keyed Oakfield-Aalbama to a 47-32 win over Lyndonville.

Lyndonville jumped out to a 12-8 first period lead. However, Oakfield-Alabama rallied into a narrow 22-18 lead at the half before breaking the contest open with a big 15-4 third period scoring edge to open up a 37-24 advantage.

Morgan Hungerford scored 7 for Lyndonville as Rebekah Hoffee, Aubrey Lewis and Chelsea Poler each added 5.
