Hits and runs were hard to come by as Notre Dame nipped Albion 2-1 in a non league pitchers duel this afternoon at Batavia’s Dwyer Stadium.

Bryce Berry hurled a one hitter with 16 strikeouts and also banged out three hits to lead the way for Notre Dame.

Amari Jones likewise went the distance on the mound for Albion scattering 4 hits and striking out 4. He also triggered a double play in the fifth inning, picked a runner off second in the first and also had the Purple Eagles lone base hit.

Albion grabbed a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Chris Sacco walked, advanced on a single by Jones and came home on a wild pitch.

However, the Purple Eagles could not score again as Berry allowed just one walk the rest of the way as he retired 19 of the final 20 batters he faced.

Notre Dame tied the game in the fourth inning as Berry singled, stole second and came home on a fielders choice play off the bat of Jaden Sherwood.

The Irish then scored the game winner in the sixth as Berry singled and scored on an error.

Albion next hosts Medina on Monday to open the Niagara-Orleans League season.
