Albion wins, ties at Akron in Midget A; Lockport sweeps Medina

Scoring in every inning, Albion defeated host Akron 9-3 Thursday in the opening game of a Lockport Midget ‘A’ League doubleheader.

The second game was halted by darkness after six innings tied at 3-3.

In the opener, Albion picked up a quick run in the first inning on a fielders choice play off the bat of Trey Hart and another in the second as Austin Loyd tripled and came home on a single by Aaron Burnside.

Albion tacked on two runs in the third on an error and a single by Hart and two more in the fourth on a sacrifice by JJ Downs and a single by Brady Meakin.

Capping off the win, Albion then tallied three times in the fifth on an RBI single by Burnside and a two-run single by Randy Eblacker.

Loyd and Kyle Smith both had 2 hits.

Downs picked up the win on the mound striking out 9 in three and two-thirds innings.
In the second game, Albion rallied for a run in the fifth inning on a single by Evan Pappalardo and an error to gain the 3-3 tie.

Albion is now 5-3-1 and Akron 2-4-1.

Lockport sweeps Medina

Lockport swept to a doubleheader victory over visiting Medina by scores of 12-4 and 11-1 at Outwater Park.

Medina built up a 4-1 lead in the opener after scoring once in the first inning on a a double by Justin Morgan and an RBI single by Quentin Adkins and three times in the third on a single by Brett Riemer, an error, a walk, a two-run single by Adkins and a single by Doug Bachman.

However, Lockport came battling back to take control by erupting for 9 runs with two out in the bottom of the third inning on 3 errors, 2 walks, 2 doubles and 3 singles. Medina then managed only two hits in the second game, a single by Matt Riemer in the fourth inning and an RBI single by Mike Cardone in the fifth.

Lockport took the led for good by scoring 4 times in the second inning on 2 walks, a single and a double.

Lockport later put a lock on the win by scoring 5 times with 2 out in the fifth inning.

Medina slips to 2-5 and Lockport improves to 4-6.
