12U Fillies, LUMC post softball wins

Scoring early and often the Medina 12U Fillies defeated the Amherst Miracles 17-10 on Wednesday.

Micaela Erway led the Fillies offense with four hits. Lacey Kenward, Chloe Stinson and Camri King each had two hits. Brooklyn Brown, Hannah Kenward and Tessa Boyce also each had a hit.

Brown pitched four innings allowing only 1 hit and striking out 4 to earn her first win of the season. Lacey Kenward pitched the final two innings allowing 1 run and striking out the final batter.

Defensively, Grace Cook had a rally killing inning ending putout in left field.

Stinson received the “Tuff Cookie: Award for the game.

The Fillies host Grand Island at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Butts Park.

LUMC 5, Lyndonville Yankees 4

Lyndonville United Methodist Church rallied from an early deficit to nip the Lyndonville Yankees 5-4 this week in youth softball action.

Trailing 2-0, LUMC rallied for three runs in the bottom of the first on a double by Lily Joe Carpenter and singles by Haley Shaffer and Sophia Weber.

The Yankees pulled even in the second inning with a run on a fielders choice play but LUMC answered with what proved to be the deciding two runs in the third on an RBI single by Shelby Boring and a sacrifice by Gianna Romano.

Carpenter had a total of three hits and Weber two. Lorelei Sanders, who had a strong game defensively at second, also had a single.

In the circle, Boring had 6 strikeouts and Shaffer 5 as LUMC improves to 3-0-1 on the season.
