Medina High graduate and Niagara County Community College sophomore Alba Perez has earned two post season regional basketball honors.
Perez has been named to the first team of the Region III Division II All-Star team. In addition, she was named to the Region III Division II All-Tournament team following the past weekend’s competition.
Perez, who earned Region III Athlete of the Week honors five times during the season, averaged a double-double for NCCC.
She led the Thunderwolves in both scoring with 427 points (13.3 average) and on the boards with 389 rebounds (12.2 ave.).
“Alba is an absolute warrior. Pound for pound, inch for inch she is as tough as they come,” said NCCC Coach Nate Beutel. “She is the perfect example of the type of kid we want in our program – hard working, dedicated and fun to be around every single day. I consider myself blessed to have had the opportunity to work with her the past three years and have complete confidence that she will continue to excel on and off the court at the next level.”
The Thunderwolves also had Alliyah Gillespie earn first team Region III honors while Taliyah Hopkins was a second team honoree. Gillespie, who averred 13.2 points this season, was also named to the Regon III All Tournament team.
In addition, Beutel was named Region III Coach of the Year.
