Highlighting opening week, Medina High graduate Brian Fry had a big night at the plate in helping the Batavia Muckdogs score a 6-5 win over visiting Auburn in a Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League game Monday evening at Dwyer Stadium.

Fry went 4-4 including a double, an RBI and two runs scored one of which was the game winner in the eighth inning. His double drove in the Muckdogs first run of the evening.

Fry, who just completed his freshman year as the starting second baseman for the University of Toledo, is playing second base for the Muckdogs whose roster also includes Albion grad third baseman Liam Ward.

Bruning caps senior year in style

Roy-Hart graduate Jacob Bruning capped off his senior year at Niagara University in style recently as he hurled the final two innings of the Purple Eagles 19-14 10 inning upset win over top seeded Fairfield in the MAC Tournament. He stuck out 1 and allowed only 2 hits.

Bruning, who posted a 4-4 record on the mound with 47 strikeouts this season, graduated from Niagara with a degree in Marketing. He is now going to do his graduate work and play baseball at the University of South Alabama.
