Purple Eagles rally in 7th to win B1 opener

No. 8 seed Albion rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to nip visiting No. 9 Dunkirk 7-6 this afternoon in the opening round of the Section VI Class B1 playoffs.

An error and a walk started the last inning rally for the Purple Eagles which scored the decisive three runs on an RBI double by Caleb Fox, a bases loaded walk to Chris Sacco and an error. Fox had a pair of hits on the day.

Dunkirk had rallied from a 4-2 deficit into a 6-4 lead by scoring three runs in the sixth inning one one in the top of the seventh.

Amari Jones pitched the first 6 innings for Albion scattering 7 hits and striking out 7. Tyler Gibson came on to hurl the final frame giving up 1 hit and striking out 1.

Albion next visits top seeded City Honors in the quarterfinals at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
