Fast start sparks Mustangs past Lakemen
Erupting for a total of nine runs over the first two innings, Medina went on to defeat Wilson 10-2 at Vets Park this evening to remain in the thick of the Niagara-Orleans League title race at 8-2.
Medina jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI triple by Brody Fry, a two-run single by Aidan Paul, an RBI single by Joe Cecchini and a fielders choice play off the bat of Richard Keppler.
Keeping the momentum, the Mustangs made it 9-0 by tallying four times in the second inning on a two-run single by Fry and RBI singles by winning pitcher Zach Fike and Paul.
Fry finished with 3 hits as Fike and Paul both had 2.
Luke Atlas had a double and triple for Wilson which slips to 2-8.
On the mound, Fike scattered 4 hits and struck out 13.
The contest was also the annual Jeffrey Evoy Memorial game proceeds from which go to the Evoy Scholarship at Medina High. The contest honors the memory of the former Medina Superintendent.
