One run contest highlights Women’s openers

The Medina Women’s Softball League’s opening night Monday featured a tight contest as 810 Meadworks/The HempHouse nipped White Birch 17-16.

Bridget Tower started off the power inning hitting in the third inning  sparking 810 Meadworks/HempHouse  to an 8 run uprising which also includeed a two-run homer by Kelsey Schmitt.

White Birch answered back in the third bringing the score to 8-6.

In the sixth inning 810 Meadworks/HempHouse rallied with two out on runs scored by Suzy White, Alishia Foss, Tower, Kelly Jo Pritchard, Melissa Prince, Halle Deuil and Randi Scholes.

White Birch fought back in the sixth pulling to within one but 810 Meadworks/HempHouse was able to hold them for the win.

Next week, 810 Meadworks/HempHouse plays Banes at Jr Wilson field 1 at 7 p.m.

Jr. Wilson 1 27, NYSCOPBA 7

Scoring early and often, Jr. Wilson plated 10 runs in the top of the first inning on six singles and then a grand slam from Jaclyn Guzdek. Jr.

Wilson 1 then scored twice in the second inning on a 2-run blast to right field by Jessica Rosenbeck.

Adding to their lead in the third, Jr. Wilson would tack on five more. After singles from Butchie Stockwell and Penny Roath, Stormi Kruger stepped to the plate and belted a 3-run home run to right center. Sara Flansburg added a single, and was hit home by another home run shot from Rosenbeck.

NYSCOPBA picked away at Jr. Wilson’s lead in the third by adding two runs on two hits and an error, making it a 15-6 ball game. Jr. Wilson pulled away in the fourth though, adding another 10 runs on eight hits, including a grand slam from Flansburg.

Rosenbeck finished the day 4-4 with 2 homeruns, and 4 runs scored. Flansburg had three hits, while Guzdek, Kruger, Jodi Zacher, Bri Guzdek, Michelle Crandall, Stockwell, Roath and Kaitlyn Miller all finished with two hits.
