Albion High grad and SUNY Brockport graduate student Chanyce Powell set a new school record for the Golden Eagles in the Triple Jump at the All Atlantic Region indoor track and field championships held this weekend at Nazareth College.

Powell had a winning leap of 39-11 1/2 to set a new Brockport record and qualify for the NCAA Division III indoor national championships which will be held next weekend at Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Last weekend Powell placed second in the Long Jump at the SUNY Conference championships with a leap of 17-7. She also placed 9th in the Triple Jump.

She is pursuing a degree in Exercise Physiology.

On the collegiate diamonds

There was an interesting matchup of former Niagara-Orleans League baseball foes on the collegiate diamond Saturday.

Wilson High grad Ian Evans pitched the ninth inning of Elon College’s 13-2 win over Toledo giving up only one hit which was interestingly banged out by Medina High grad and Toledo freshman Brian Fry.

Roy-Hart grad Jake Bruning pitched five innings  striking out 7 and allowing 6 hits for Niagara University Saturday in the Purple Eagles 4-2 loss to University of Maryland Baltimore County.
