Mustangs roll past Panthers to go to 7-0; Purple Eagles top Lakemen for first win

Photos by Cheryl Wertman – Aiden Paul hurled Medina past Newfane in a Niagara-Orleans League game at Vets Park this evening registering 14 strikeouts.

Scoring early and often Medina rolled to  15-2 victory over Newfane this evening at Vets Park as the Mustangs improved to 7-0 in Niagara-Orleans League competition.

Sophomore Aiden Paul hurled a two hitter with 14 strikeouts and no walks for the Mustangs.

Newfane’s only hits came with two out in the seventh as Tyler Oudette singled and Cade Littman followed up with a two-run homer.

Medina jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead by scoring once in the first as Brian Fry doubled and came home on a wild pitch and then twice in the second on RBI sacrifice flies by Xander Payne and Fry.

The Mustangs then broke the contest wide open by erupting for seven runs in the third inning on a two-run single by AJ Seefeldt, a two-run error, RBI singles by Payne and Zach Fike and a bases loaded walk to Corey Saj, Two walks and a single by Alex Doval loaded the bases to set up the threat.

Medina also had a big five run fifth inning uprising which included a two-run double by Paul, an RBI double by Fry and RBI singles by Joe Cecchini and Doval. A double by Payne ignited the uprising.

The loss drops Newfane to 3-3.

Albion 6, Wilson 1

Albion snapped a season long five game N-O losing streak by downing visiting Wilson 6- 1 as Tyler Gibson went the distance on the mound scattering 4 hits and striking out 9.

Albion scored two quick runs in the first inning on an error and a sacrifice by Tyler Gibson.

The Purple Eagles tacked on four more runs in the second on an RBI double by Alex Gibson and singles by Javon Jones, Tyler Gibson and Austin Aman.

Aman and Jones both had 2 hits on the day.

Wilson is now 3-5.

Akron 21, Barker 2

Kyle Swift had 3 hits and 5 RBIs, River White a double and RBI single to lead Akron at the plate while on the mound Adam Mietz allowed 4 hits and struck out 6 over five innings.

Niagara-Wheatfield 57, Medina 12

Dominic Callara had a pin and Rashawn Bloom and Miles Hartway both had decision wins for Medina.
