Lady Rams top Mustangs in Class C1 semifinal
Jumping out to big leads in both of the first two sets, No. 4 seed Roy-Hart went on to defeat visiting No. 8 Medina 25-11, 25-18, 25-14 this evening in the semifinals of the Section VI Class C1 volleyball playoffs.
Roy-Hart built up a commanding 22-6 lead in the first set as Samantha Capen had a long run of 11 straight service points (4-14) including three aces. Alex Stern tacked on points 16-18 and Samantha Albright 20-22. Albright also registered three spiking kills for points.
Likewise in the second set the Lady Rams grabbed a 15-4 lead as Capen served up points 2-5, Stern 6-10 and Albright 12-15.
Medina did close to within 24-18 after a three point run of service poitns by Sydney Watts but Marissa Scott answered with a kill for the set winning 25th point for the Lady Rams.
Roy-Hart then closed out the match by taking the third set as Samantha McIntyre served up points 11-14, Capen 19-21 including two aces and Albright 24 and 25 notching an ace for the match winner.
Service points by Watts and Evie Schultz did pull Medina to within four at 14-10 but the Mustangs would get no closer.
Roy-Hart will now visit No. 3 Eden in the Class C1 championship match at noon on Saturday. Eden defeated No. 2 Akron in straight sets 25-18, 25-15, 25-22.
