Gas prices up another 8 cents in past week, 39 cents since early January
The average price for a gallon of gas went up another 8 cents last week to $2.72 for the national average and $2.78 in New York, according to AAA Western and Central New York.
“The national average continues to increase as crude prices march higher,” AAA said. “Gas prices have also increased from longer-than-expected refinery outages due to last week’s winter storm that impacted the Gulf Coast.”
The 8-cent rise comes after a week when the price jumped 13 cents following the storm in the Gulf Coast region.
“As refineries restart and resume normal operations, supply is expected to increase in impacted areas and should bring stability to pump prices,” AAA said. “Until then, most drivers should expect pump prices to continue increasing.”
The average price in the country is up 40 cents since the beginning of January and it’s up an average of 39 cents in the state.
