Recalling Lyndonville’s first G-R Division II softball championship
Contributed Photo – The Lyndonville girls softball team has had a nice string of Genesee Region League Division II titles in recent years including back-to-back championships in 2018 and 2019. However, the Lady Tigers first reached the top of the Division II standings 35 years ago when they earned a share of the crown in 1985 going 10-2 in the league and 13-4 overall. An eight game winning streak, seven of which were league contests, keyed that successful title run. Team members included, in front, Tammy Stewart, Michele Breeze, Joanne Beeby, Teresa Elam and Lynn Pitts. In back are Pam Helsdon, Joni Dix, Julie James, Coach Lisa Barker, Jacqui Schuner, Sue Young and Kim Krisher. Dix, Pitts, Helsdon, Krisher and James were also all members of the Lady Tigers 1984 team which earned the program’s first ever sectional victory, an opening round 25-2 win over Naples. However, the Lady Tigers dropped a narrow 4-3 decision to Campbell in the next round.
