Local diamond contingents at NCCC, GCC

Both the Niagara County Community College and Genesee Community College diamond squads have a good continent of local players this season.

The NCCC softball team has a quartet of local players including sophomore shortstop Alisha Scroger from Medina, freshman infielder/pitcher Ashley Hill from Roy-Hart, freshman infielder Sierra Newton from Albion and sophomore infielder Maddy Glena from Roy-Hart.

Representing Lyndonville on the diamonds are Alecia Hinkson at GCC and Zach Johnson at NCCC

Scroger earned second team Region III All-Star honors last spring as she set school record with 58 hits and 51 runs scored. She also led the Thunderwolves with a .443 average and had 18 doubles and 21 RBI.

On the baseball diamond, the NCCC pitching staff includes freshman Zach Johnson from Lyndonville.

The NCCC diamond squads will open the season this coming week with games in Florida.

The GCC baseball squad has a trio of local players including sophomore pitchers Ryan Voss from Barker and Jason Downs from Albion along with freshman pitcher Matt Skehan from Holley.

On the GCC softball squad is freshman infielder Alecia Hinkson from Lyndonville.

The GCC softball squad is opening the season at a tournament at Myrtle Beach while the baseball team will open this week with games at Disney World.

On the diamond for GCC are Ryan Voss, Jason Downs and Matt Skehan.
