2019 in Review: #13 – Sect. VI honors Colella
All time Albion football great Tommy Colella was inducted into the Section VI Hall of Fame earlier this month.
Colella, who had previously been inducted into both the Greater Buffalo and Canisius College Halls of Fame, starred at Albion High in the mid 1930’s.
He led Albion to records of 6-0-2 in 1934, 6-1 in 1935 and 8-0-1 in 1936 when scored 22 touchdowns and a total of 137 points. He had a career total of 38 TDs.
He went on to star at Canisius College (1939-41) earning Little All America honors three times. His career stats at Canisius included 16 rushing touchdowns and 4 passing.
He then played eight years of professional football including three with the Cleveland (1946-48) when the Browns won the All America Football Conference (AAFC) championship each year
A running back, defensive back and punter, he led the Browns in interceptions in 1946 with 10 and had 6 more in 1947. He had a career total of 26 interceptions.
He also played with the Detroit Lions (1942-43) and Cleveland Rams (1944-45) of the NFL and Buffalo Bills (1949) of the AAFC.
