Barker tips Medina in overtime in field hockey

Barker opened defense of its Niagara-Orleans League field hockey title with a narrow 2-1 overtime win over Medina at Vets Park this evening.
Ciara Gregoire scored the game winner for Barker off an assist from Lena Fazzolari at 4:52 of the 10 minute 7 on 7 overtime period. To see a video of Barker’s winning goal, click here.
Barker also got off to a quick start taking a 1-0 lead just six minutes into the opening half on a goal by Rachel Hurtgam.
However, Medina battled back to knot the contest when Lacey Kenward scored with just 2:40 to go in the first half.
Neither team could find the net in the second half which saw Medina have a 5-3 edge in corner opportunities.
In the other N-O openers, Akron banked Wilson 5-0 as Olivia McClain scored 3 goals and Roy-Hart shutout Kenmore 6-0 as Maddie Brown scored 2 goals and Cheyenne Stilwell, Mandi Hill, Jenna Gioeli and Abby Ander 1 each.
